Bed racks, LED lighting and stainless trim from Putco

Putco is an Iowa company known for stainless tailgate and bed trim and for two rack systems: the bolt-on Black Boss Rack and the modular Venture TEC rack. The lighting side is just as large: Nitro-Lux and Nitro Pro-Lux LED headlight kits in H7, H10, H16, 9005 and 9012 sizes, Lumacore LED bulbs and load resistors.

Rack titles name the truck: Black Boss Rack for the 2015 to 2025 F-150, the 2019 to 2025 GMC Sierra and the 2019 to 2024 Ram. Venture TEC titles add the bed length, for example the 5 foot rack for the 2020 to 2024 Gladiator Rubicon. The tailgate caps reach back to the 1973 to 1987 GM square-body trucks.

Black Boss Rack headache racks

Venture TEC rack system

Venture TEC is Putco's overland-style bed rack, listed by truck and bed length. TEC mounting plates (listed for the 2017 to 2024 Super Duty) and grab handles bolt to its rails for lights or recovery boards.

Nitro-Lux and Nitro Pro-Lux LED headlight kits

Lumacore LED bulbs and resistors

Lumacore bulbs replace incandescent bases such as the 1156 in tail, reverse and signal lamps and come in pairs. The LED resistors sit next to them because an LED turn signal draws so little current that the flasher speeds up without one.

Stainless tailgate caps and trim

The tailgate cap is the original Putco part: a formed stainless cover over the top edge of the tailgate, listed for 1973 to 1987 GM trucks and for the 2006 to 2008 Ram 1500 and 2006 to 2009 Ram 2500 and 3500. Wheel trim and grille accents sit in the same family.

Choosing the right Putco part

For a rack, confirm the bed length and note anything already on the bed rails (tonneau cover, rail caps, tool box), since the rack mounts at the cab end and has to clear it. For LED headlights, pull the old bulb and read the base code rather than guessing by truck; a 9005 and a 9012 look alike but are keyed differently.

Common questions

Do Putco LED bulbs need a resistor?

Only when they replace a turn signal on a truck that hyper-flashes with LEDs. Tail and reverse lamps do not flash, so they do not need one.

Does Putco make a rack for the Jeep Gladiator?

Yes. The Venture TEC rack is listed for the 2020 to 2024 Gladiator Rubicon with the 5 foot bed, and the TEC mounting plates and grab handles fit its rails.

Are Putco tailgate caps stainless steel?
